Branson Police Investigating Kidnapping

Branson police confirmed they are investigating a kidnapping and assault that took place overnight between April 12th and 13th.

Police were called to the Strafford House Inn on West 76 Country Boulevard around 8 a.m. on April 13th because of a report that an adult male had been held against his will overnight in a room and repeatedly assaulted.

The victim escaped when he was able to grab a knife and cut an attacker, causing enough of a disruption that he was able to flee the room. The victim flagged down a passing motorist who called police.

Two suspects are in custody but Branson police are looking for a third. Gary Murphy, 31, is hospitalized in Springfield but under guard for a warrant issued for kidnapping and assault with a $100,000 bond. He will be booked into the Taney County Jail upon hospital release.

Kristian Garbrecht, 27, is in the Taney County Jail on a kidnapping warrant with a $75,000 bond.

Police say there is no danger to the general public as the incident took place between acquaintances. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

Anyone with information on the incident to call 417-334-3300.
