Branson’s new mayor is now on the job.
Edd Akers took the oath of office Tuesday April 9, 2019 at the scheduled Board of Alderman meeting. Akers defeated incumbent Mayor Karen Best 790-733 with a third candidate not receiving enough votes to sway the outcome in Best’s favor.
Akers is retired from a career in insurance, where he was President of Akers, Arney Insurance Agency from 1970 to 1993 and then an associate of Ollis Akers Arney from 2015 until last month.
“I feel gratitude to the citizens of Branson for this opportunity to serve! I am excited to work with a talented group of alderpersons and dedicated staff who have in their heart this City and Community we call home!,” Akers said in a statement. “I look forward to what we can accomplish together. A true atmosphere of cooperation and welcoming spirit to family, friends and visitors to our beautiful Ozark country.”
Akers also served as President of the Branson R-4 School District, the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, and Community of Recovery Experience. He’s been chairman of the Taney County Board of Adjustment.
A new alderman for Ward 2, Larry Milton, was sworn in at the same meeting. He replaces Cris Bohinc who did not run for re-election.
