Autopsy of Man Who Died in Police Custody Inconclusive

The autopsy of a man who died while in police custody on April 1 is not providing any answers as to why he died.

The Greene County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed to OI that the autopsy on 32-year-old Wally McCurdy is inconclusive.

McCurdy died after being chased by Springfield police on April 1st following a report from an off-duty officer of a couple shoplifting from the Walmart at Glenstone and Kearney. The female suspect was arrested at a nearby Culver’s restaurant, while McCurdy fled the scene.

After being taken into custody, McCurdy stopped breathing. Police administered life saving measures but he died at Mercy hospital.

The GCME says that they are waiting on toxicology reports.
