Bass Pro Shops has announced the eight high school teams that will compete in their 2020 Tournament of Champions and an Ozarks state champion highlights the field.
The Greenwood Blue Jays, lead by Class 2 player of the year Aminu Mohammed, will be taking part in the 8-team contest. The 29-3 Blue Jays wrapped up the Class 2 State Championship with a 55-54 come-from-behind win over Oran in the state championship game.
They will be joined by the Kickapoo Chiefs, lead by Anton Brookshire, will also be part of the competition. They finished the season 22-5 and lost to the eventual Class 5 state champion in the quarterfinals.
Also participating in the tournament from Missouri are Vashon from St. Louis, the Class 3 state champions with a 26-5 record last season.
Three former Tournament of Champions winners are also in the field. Christ the King from New York (winners in 1985,1989,1996,1998, and 2008), Oak Hill Academy of Virginia (winners in 2015, 2016 and 2018), and Paul VI from Fairfax, Virginia (winner in 2013.)
Greensboro Day School from North Carolina will be making their first appearance in the Tournament of Champions. Also returning for their sixth appearance is Booker T. Washington from Tulsa.
The 36th Annual Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions will take place January 16-18, 2020.
