Real IDs Now Available for Missourians

Today the Missouri Department of Revenue will be issuing federally-compliant Real IDs.

The licenses comply with the Real ID Act passed in 2005 as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Some Missouri lawmakers were concerned about privacy issues related to the law and that delayed implementation in the state. A 2017 Missouri law gave residents the option to get a compliant driver’s license or ID card.

Missourians will have until October 1, 2020 to get the upgraded license or ID before they will be barred from getting on domestic flights. The upgraded IDs will also be required for secure facilities such as federal buildings or military bases.
