Springfield Public Schools Holding Last School Facility Tour Before Vote Tonight

If you’re still on the fence regarding the upcoming tax levy to benefit Springfield Public Schools, you have one more opportunity to hear from the school directly as well as see a tour of a facility that will be replaced if Proposition S passes on April 2.

The presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Delaware Elementary, 1505 S Delaware Avenue in Springfield. After a tour of the facility there will be a formal presentation.

Delaware Elementary would be rebuilt at a cost of just over $23.7 million should the measure pass. It is one of three schools that will be built. The other two are Boyd Elementary and Jarrett Middle School.

If it passes, the measure would raise residential tax bills by $34.20 for every $100,000 of assessed market value of the property. The increase would phase in at nine cents a year for two years.

Passage would allow the schools to renovate entrances at 31 schools to increase student and staff security. Additional projects can be found on the Springfield Public Schools website.
