The visitor’s center at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield could get a makeover if a fundraising campaign is successful.
The Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation will be launching a fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $300,000 toward a $4.5 million renovation of the visitor’s center.
The goal of the expansion is to add just under 1,900 square feet of exhibit space to bring the facility’s educational display space to almost 3,400 square feet. The center would also improve their HVAC system to help protect some of the more environmentally sensitive objects on display.
The updates will also include interactive displays and “virtual displays” that can show fragile artifacts in 3D. Restrooms will be made to meet ADA requirements.
The project is a partnership between the National Park Service, the National Park Foundation and the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation.
Bass Pro Shops has committed to donating $25,000 to help start the fundraising campaign.
