The Springfield Fire Department received an accreditation given to less than one percent of fire departments across America.
The SFD was given accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Only 258 agencies in the United States have received CFAI accreditation for their performance and readiness. Less than 10 percent of the U.S. population is protected by a CFAI accredited agency.
“The [Springfield Fire Department] is an exemplary organization, and it is a privilege to serve as Fire Chief,” SFD Chief David Pennington posted on social media in response to the news of the accreditation.
The accreditation comes after a peer team reviewed the department’s application, an onsite assessment was carried out and then a public hearing was held where the CFAI voted to issue accreditation.
The accreditation lasts for five years. The department will have to file annual reports during those five years regarding items related to accreditation.
