A Springfield man will spend the rest of his life behind bars following his conviction on sex crime charges.
Bruce Cagle, 63, was sentenced to life in prison by Judge Thomas Mountjoy. Cagle had pled guilty on October 1, 2018 to two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree. In the first count, he admitted touching a child in 2009 who was around eight years old. In the second count, a second eight-year-old child in 2008.
While the case against Cagle was proceeding, an additional two victims came forward to report their abuse by Cagle. One incident took place 16 years prior to Cagle’s arrest; the other 25 years. In all four cases, Cagle personally knew the victims.
Judge Mountjoy told the defendant during sentencing that he had put his victims into their own prison for life, just a prison without bars. Cagle’s public defender has asked Mountjoy to give his client probation.
Prosecuting attorney Dan Patterson praised the victims in a statement for their “courage to come forward” so that Cagle could be held accountable for his crimes.
