Man Slain by Springfield Police Identified

The Springfield Police Department has released the identity of the man who was shot and killed by an officer at the Sunset Woodland Apartments on Monday night.

The suspect has been identified as Bryan Ryder, 38, from Springfield.

SPD reports that officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at 2752 East Meadowbrook at approximately 7:30 p.m. after reports of a woman calling for help.

Officers heard the woman screaming inside apartment E208. Officers forced open the door and the suspects was inside the door holding a knife. Officers gave the suspect commands that were ignored before the male subject then came toward the officers with the knife.

One officer shot the suspect. The officers then secured the suspect and provided aid. Despite efforts of paramedics and officers, the suspect died at the scene.

The woman in the apartment was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries believed to been inflicted by the deceased suspect.
