The Salvation Army is opening their extreme emergency cold weather shelter Friday night because of potentially lethal cold conditions being forecasted for the region.
Men and women without minor children can show up beginning at 8 p.m. at Harbor House, 636 North Boonville in Springfield. Anyone who uses this shelter can stay until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
If a man or woman has minor children, they can go to the Salvation Army location at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway and check in at the Family Enrichment Center entrance. If you have children, you can also visit that shelter during the day to escape the cold.
Picture IDs will be required for overnight stays and Sex Offender Background Checks will take place.
Breakfast will be provided in the morning.
If you wish to donate to offset costs of the shelter or want to volunteer to help the Salvation Army run the shelter, contact the Salvation Army at 417-862-5509
