Missouri State Plans Weekend to Celebrate Dr. Mary Jo Wynn

Missouri State has announced a weekend to honor the life and work of Dr. Mary Jo Wynn, who passed away January 22 at the age of 87.

Wynn was described by Missouri State in a press release as “the backbone of one of the most progressive and successful women’s athletics programs in the country” and a “national pioneer for the cause of women’s sports.”

The weekend features discounted ticket for two Lady Bears games, free campus activities and a celebration of Dr. Wynn’s life on Sunday, March 3.

Here is the weekend schedule as released by Missouri State:

Friday, March 1

  • Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Play Day – 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Hammons Student Center
    • Free and open to all boys and girls, grades K-5.
    • Features the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis with Missouri State student-athletes from those sports.
    • Enter Hammons Student Center through the east doors, adjacent to the ticket office.
    • Parking in BearPark South garage and Lot 20

  • Lady Bears vs. Northern Iowa – 7:00 p.m., JQH Arena
    • All students 12 and under admitted free.
    • All tickets half price. Bleacher tickets just $2.
    • $1 hot dogs and $1 Coca-Cola products.

Saturday, March 2

  • Tour of Missouri State Athletics Facilities – 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Free guided tours of Missouri State facilities, including the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Academic Achievement Center in Forsythe Athletics Center. The tour will also include stops at McDonald Arena, Hammons Student Center, JQH Arena, and various team facilities and locker rooms.
    • Tours are conducted by members of the MSU coaching staff and originate from Hammons Student Center.
  • Social Event – 6:00 p.m., Ocean Zen restaurant (4117 S National Ave)
    • Banquet room reserved. No RSVP required.
    • Open to the public with food and drink menu.
    • Casual dress.
    • Socialize and exchange your favorite stories about Dr. Wynn and the legacy of women’s athletics on the Missouri State campus with some of the most iconic coaches, athletes and friends of the program.

Sunday, March 3

  • Celebrating the Life, Leadership and Legacy of Dr. Mary Jo Wynn – 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Hammons Student Center
    • Parking available in Lot 20 and BearPark South garage.
    • Hammons Student Center doors open at 10:30 a.m.
    • Reception 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on the south court at Hammons Student Center. Refreshments will be provided.
    • Life celebration program, hosted by Dr. Cecile Reynaud, begins at 11:45 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 1:15 p.m.
    • The life celebration is free and open to the public.
  • Lady Bears vs. Drake – 2:00 p.m., JQH Arena
    • The top two women’s basketball teams in the Missouri Valley Conference square off on Missouri State’s “senior day” at JQH Arena.
    • Special halftime recognition of Dr. Wynn, including recognition of championship teams, campus legends and the unveiling of a commemorative banner.
    • All students 12 and under admitted free.
    • All tickets half price. Bleacher tickets just $2.
    • $1 hot dogs and $1 Coca-Cola products.
