A Willard teenager has been named the 2019 Youth of the Year by the Springfield Boys & Girls Club.
The award, given to Sydney Schader, is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. Schader will now compete against other Boys & Girls Club members in the state for the Missouri Youth of the Year honor.
The award gives Sydney a $16,000 college scholarship from BGC Partners in Education. If she wins the state title, Sydney will gain an additional $5,000 college scholarship.
The Springfield Boys & Girls club called Sydney in a press release “a true example of an extraordinary young woman…for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.”
Sydney is a senior at Willard High School and has been involved with Boys & Girls Club since age 6. She has a 4.0 GPA while also being in the teen leadership club Keystone Club; FBLA; DECA; A+ Program; Honors Society; and Speech & Debate. She also is on the bowling team and has been a four-year letter winner for the softball team.
Sydney will be attending Lindenwood University with a goal of a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration.
