The Springfield police department has begun their largest academy class.
The class gathered in front of police headquarters today for a group photo before a day of ID photos, tours of the facility and preparations for their nine months of training.
If the entire class of 33 cadets make it through training, it will mean the Springfield police department is fully staffed. Spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey said there are currently 20 vacancies and 10 new positions as a result of the level property tax.
The academy process takes six months and then new officers will spend three months on the street with a training officer before they begin individually serving the community.
