Chris Gatley, the controversial landlord of 417 Rentals who has been the center of multiple legal actions, was found shot Sunday afternoon at one of his business’s properties near Republic.
The shooting comes less than two weeks after the 48-year-old Gatley’s 417 Rentals bankruptcy case was dismissed by a federal judge on January 16, clearing the way for creditors to foreclose on the company’s properties.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call around 1 p.m. on Sunday about a man shot at 5849 West U.S. Highway 60. Deputies found Gatley with life-threatening injuries and he remains in critical condition at a Springfield area hospital.
The GCSO cited the ongoing investigation in telling OI they could not confirm if the shot was from an assailant or self-inflicted.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident to call them at (417) 868-4040.
