The latest crime statistics from the City of Springfield show an overall decline in crime for the 4th quarter of 2018 compared to 2017, but crimes against persons showed an increase.
The stats show a rise in homicide (from 4 to 7), rape (from 75 to 82) and aggravated assault (from 376 to 416). Robbery declined from 103 to 86, but that was not enough to offset the other areas and cause an overall rise of 6% in the crimes against person category.
Springfield PD noted that all of the homicides from October-December 2018 were solved.
The news wasn’t all bad from the report as property crimes declined an overall 12 percent. While burglary held fairly steady (down from 506 to 505), larceny/theft fell from 2,486 to 2,130 and stolen vehicles fell from 406 to 344.
