The Drury baseball team is picked to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference based on the league’s preseason coaches’ poll.
The GLVC has changed their format in 2019 and will play as a single-division, 14-team league with each team playing 11 different conference opponents in a three-game series as part of a 33-game league schedule.
Bellarmine is picked to the win the conference after going 39-19 and 16-8 in the GLVC last season. Illinois Springfield received two first-place votes and are picked second. The Prairie Stars lost only one league game last year going 47-9 overall and 23-1 in the conference. Defending GLVC tournament champion Quincy (41-18, 19-9 in 2018) received two first-place votes and is picked third.
Drury returns 24 lettermen and 11 starters from last year’s team that went 29-23, 20-8 in the GLVC and won the West Division in the conference for the second straight year. Scott Nasby returns for this his seventh season as head coach of the Panthers in 2019.
Drury opens the season on Sat., Feb. 9 against Central Oklahoma in Russellville, Arkansas. The Panthers first home game is Fri., Feb. 22 against Lewis at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.
