Missouri State’s Jasmine
Franklin made it back-to-back Missouri Valley
Conference Newcomer of the Week awards in women’s basketball on Monday,
becoming the first Lady Bear to receive the honor in consecutive weeks
since February 2010.
Franklin had 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in MSU’s only game last week, a 66-51 win against Southern Illinois. The Fayetteville, Ark., native’s 14 boards were the most for an MSU freshman since Christiana Shorter had 16 in 2010, the same year she registered multiple MVC Newcomer of the Week selections as the last MSU player to do so prior to Franklin.
Franklin has logged a double-double in three consecutive games, making her the first MSU player to accomplish the feat since Whitney Edie in 2012, and the first freshman since Shorter in 2010. The forward’s .575 field goal percentage ranks second in the MVC.
The Lady Bears (7-7, 3-0) hit the Valley road for the first time this season on Friday, Jan. 18, with a 7 p.m. game at Bradley.
