Victim advocacy organization The Victim Center is hosting an open house on Saturday for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer.
The open house is from 3 to 5 p.m..
The event seeks to find new volunteer victim advocates, who will help victims of crime walk through the processes of recovery from interaction with law enforcement groups, medical staff and social services agencies.
Advocates also help the victims in dealing with the justice system, whether they will be going through the criminal or civil system.
Volunteers help by providing support on the Center’s 24-hour crisis line.
A volunteer training will take place on February 8th and 9th for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer. Even if you cannot attend the open house, you can still apply to be a volunteer. Contact the Center for an application.
Applicants must be over 21 years old, pass a criminal background check and have access to transportation and/or a valid driver’s license.
The Victim Center is located at 819 Boonville Ave. in Springfield.
