Crusader Men Get Road Win 87-77

The Evangel men’s basketball team fought to a hard-earned 87-77 road victory Thursday night at Missouri Valley in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

The Crusaders and Vikings battled back and forth in the first half with Missouri Valley taking a 47-41 lead at halftime. A strong defensive effort from Evangel saw the Crusaders hold Missouri Valley to just nine second-half field goals.

Evangel also out-rebounded the Vikings 50-42 as Luke Call helped the Crusaders pull away.

Call broke a 71-71 tie with 4:05 left in the game and then again with a pair of from throws with 3:11 left in the game. The senior finished up his own run with an assist to Ike Egwu under the basket to give Evangel the lead for good 77-73.

Free throws from Cade Coffman, Clark Brewington, and Tory Stamps helped ice the game in the final minutes as Coffman and Brewington led Evangel with 18 points each.

Five Crusaders scored in double figures as Egwu recorded his first double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Coffman also pulled down eight rebounds in the win, while Brewington finished with six boards and six assists.

Missouri Valley was led by Larry Plummer who finished with 18 points for the Vikings.
