Governor Mike Parson has appointed Springfield insurance agent John C. Russell as the interim Greene County Commissioner District 2. Russell replaces Lincoln Hough, who resigned yesterday ahead of his swearing in as a freshman State Senator.
Russell was recommended to the governor by the Greene County Republican Party. He will be officially sworn in at 4 p.m. today, January 8, 2019, at the county offices in the 10th floor of the Cox North Medical Tower.
Russell will need to be confirmed by the State Senate within 30 days of their first session Wednesday. Until he is confirmed, Russell will have all the authority of a County Commissioner including voting on the upcoming county budget.
Russell, who developed and launched a local insurance and risk management firm, previously served as deputy chief of staff for former Governor Matt Blunt. He was liaison between the Governor and the Department of Economic Development.
“I look forward to the leadership and expertise that John can bring to the Commission and the citizens of Greene County,” Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon said in a statement. “This is an exciting time for the County because we have an opportunity to work together to bring a lot of important projects to fruition.”
