John Russell Sworn In as Greene County Commissioner

John Russell has officially been sworn in as the 2nd District Commissioner for Greene County.

Russell was administered the oath of office by Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller Tuesday afternoon in the Greene County Commission’s 10th floor conference room in the Cox North Medical Tower.

Russell spoke with OI and said that one of the things he wants to focus on as he begins his term in office is continue the steps of transparency that have recently been taken by county government.

“Transparency in government is something I’ve heard a lot about,” Russell said. “I think the steps have been taken to start that process and we need to ensure that transparency continues once that has been established.”

He also the budget is a focus.

“One of the biggest priorities of a county commissioner is the budgeting process,” Russell said. “To me, that’s making sure that every single tax dollar is spent in a very efficient and wise manner. I don’t want to speak for the other commissioners but I think that they’re on the same page.”

Russell also feels that his experience with state government as a deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Matt Blunt could help him work with the state on issues important to the county.

“I think my interactions in state government really helped me learn how government works,” Russell said. “It helps me understand if we need something on the county level what department we need to go to and what the best avenue is to move forward.”
