Virgil Mackey, 83

Virgil Junior Mackey, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 in his home.  He was born June 1, 1935 in Owings, West Virginia, the son of Kenneth Virgil and Sarah Katherine (Vandergrift) Mackey. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and raised his family in Des Moines, Iowa. He loved serving people in his neighborhood and community, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, was a man of deep faith and a member of various Christian churches, spent time fishing and listening to country music, and adored his grandsons. He was a barber, construction worker, and ultimately worked for and retired with John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa, manufacturing division. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne Mackey, his grandson, Connor Lee Deal, and his brother and sisters.

Virgil is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Jean (Wolfe) Mackey; two daughters, Jill Colony and husband Bruce; and Nan Deal and husband Ron; a brother, John Mackey; and three grandsons, Ian Colony, Braden Deal, and Brennan Deal.

A private family service will be held in Springfield, MO.
