Drury’s wrestling team competed in their fourth tournament of the year at the Jet Invitational hosted by Newman University in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday.
Seth Otis came away with a championship in the 149-pound weight class. The sophomore from Kansas City moved up from 141 pounds to compete at 149 and had one match to win the title. Otis defeated Wyatt Alvis of Fort Hays State 7-2 to take first place in the weight class.
The Panthers competed with just six wrestlers on Sunday and also got a third-place finish from heavyweight Cody Cornutt. Cornutt, a sophomore from Ozark, went 3-1 in the tournament and won his third-place match with a 3-1, sudden victory win over Lexington Plummer of Kansas Wesleyan.
“We brought a small group to compete this weekend,” said Drury head coach James Reynolds. “We got some much-needed experience for our guys and walked away with a tournament championship at 149, a 3rd place finish at heavyweight, a 4th place at 133, and a 4th place finish at 184. The aim is to come away with some great matches and be better from this.”
Drury returns to action Dec. 15-16 at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
