The sixth-ranked Drury Lady Panthers started their game at Arkansas-Fort Smith on a 10-0 run and pulled away to stay unbeaten with a 92-63 win at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas on Tuesday night.
Drury improved to 9-0 while the Lady Lions fell to 3-7.
The Lady Panthers scored the game’s first 10 points in a three-minute span as Drury built a 25-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers then started the second period on an 8-0 run and owned a 46-22 lead at halftime.
Drury had five players score in double-figures led by Hailey Diestelkamp’s 30. The junior from Owensville, Missouri went 14 for 21 from the field and added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Emily Parker had 16 points, Payton Richards and Azia Lynch both had 14 while Paige Robinson chipped in 13.
“Arkansas-Fort Smith is a lot better than a three-win team,” said Drury head coach Molly Miller. “They’re very athletic, and I thought that would give us trouble but our kids really locked down and were ready to play.”
The Lady Panthers shot 56 percent from the floor hitting 38 of 68 attempts and took advantage of 30 turnovers from Arkansas-Fort Smith. Drury committed just 11 turnovers and went 9 for 16 from three-point range.
“Our kids definitely felt our fans’ energy,” added Miller as a bus-load of Drury fans traveled to see their team earn their second road win of the season. “Drury fans travel so well, and we were thankful a bus-full made this trip.”
Mariah Green led the Lady Lions with 13 points.
Drury is idle until Dec. 16 when they play Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
