The bridge labeled as the #1 priority in the 2015 city-wide transportation survey is about to temporarily open again to traffic.
The Grand Street bridge from Kansas Expressway to Park Avenue will be a two lane road until Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad completes a new railroad crossing at the site. Following the completion of the railroad crossing, the roadway will be turned into three lanes.
The City of Springfield stated in a press release they were opening the roadway temporarily to serve the community until M&NA can begin their work. The road will be closed again for the construction of the new crossing.
The bridge will remain closed to pedestrians until final completion of the project.
When the project is complete, there will be a new sidewalk on the south side of the street and a multi-use path on the north side that will connect with the Ozark Greenways trail.
