Elmer E. Lewis died peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2018, 1 month after his 102nd birthday. He has joined his wife of 62 years in their heavenly home. Elmer was born in Jasper County, MO on November 3, 1916, and grew up in the Mount Vernon area where he was residing at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Murray Lewis; sister, Margarite Chilton; daughter, Debi Sue Lewis, and grandsons Benjamin Lewis and Christopher Lowry.
He was loved and will be missed greatly by his son, Duane Lewis; daughter, Donna Francisco (Wayne); grandchildren Cynthia Persky (Jay), Corbin Martin (Ann), and Chad Martin (Ashley); 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; brothers James Lewis (Quepla) and Leroy Lewis (Rogene); sisters Fern Smith (Don) and Verna Sadler, and many nieces, nephews, and other close family and friends.
Elmer was a proud veteran of WWII in the Army Air Corps Technical Training Command for 3 and a half years. As he graduated top of his class, he became a Ground Crew Instructor for B25s.
Reviewal will be at 6:30 PM and Celebration of Life will be at 7:00 PM, followed by a Reception, at the University Heights Baptist Church Chapel on the corner of Grand and National on Thursday, December 6, 2018. Burial with Memorial Service will follow in May 2019. An informal time of visitation will be held any time after 10:00 AM on Thursday at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
