Drury wrestlers Blake Clevenger and Jared Rennick are both nationally ranked this week by the NCAA-II Wrestling Coaches Association.
Clevenger, a senior at 149 pounds, is ranked fifth this week. The Kearney, Missouri native hasn’t competed yet this season and started the year ranked ninth. Clevener redshired last year after transferring from Ouachita Baptist where he was an All-American in 2016 finishing third at the national championship meet.
Rennick, meanwhile, is 6-0 and ranked 11th nationally at 197 pounds. The junior from Washington, Missouri went 3-0 in tournaments hosted by Baker and Maryville. Rennick missed the second half of last season with an injury after going 13-5. He led the Panthers with a 21-13 record as a freshman two years ago and finished sixth at the NCAA-II SuperRegional that season.
The Panthers will host the Second Annual Drury Open on Saturday at Weiser Gym and Mabee Gym in the adjacent HPER Center. Around 150 wrestlers representing a dozen teams will be competing on throughout the day. Action starts at 9 a.m. and concludes with championship matches in each weight class late that afternoon.
Saturday’s Drury Open will be the Panthers third event this season and the first of three tournaments the Panthers will compete in during December. Following their event the weekend, Drury travels to Wichita, Kansas and Newman University for the Jet Invitational on Dec. 9; then they head to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic hosted by UIndy on Dec. 15-16.
