The walking trails at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center will be closed for three days in early December to allow an archery deer hunt on the property.
The Missouri Department of Conservation says that 5 hunters will be allowed on the property from December 8th through the 10th.
While no one will be allowed to hike on any of the Center’s trails during that time, the Center itself will be open on Saturday December 8th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed the other two days of the hunt.
One deer was harvested during the previous year’s hunt at the Center.
Bowhunting within city limits is permitted only by special authorization from the Springfield City Council. The city states that without managed hunts by the Department of Conservation the deer population within the city could double within 5 years.
